Check this out! It’s a 1998 GMC Sonoma with somewhere around 160,000 miles on it. I can’t tell you for sure, because that would require me to charge up the battery, and I’m not going to do that. It doesn’t matter how many miles are on it anyway, because one day, while driving it, something went ka-blooey and I said to myself “Jesus! I’m sick of this damn thing” and got myself a different, slightly newer, small truck with slightly less rust.
Mind you, the lack of rust on my new truck is disappointing, because when I was rolling around town in this GMC smoking like, 25 packs of cigarettes during my half hour commute, people would look at me and say to themselves, “now there’s a guy who’s probably listening to Molly Hatchet” and damn if they weren’t right sometimes.
It’s a 4-banger (that’s country for 4 cylinder), but I suppose I’m better off saying it’s a no-banger, because the engine in this thing gave out it’s last bang a few months ago. It’s currently serving as a neighborhood paperweight.
What’s wrong exactly? Well, it either needs a head gasket, or it needs a new engine. I really have no idea how extreme the damage is, because I don’t have the time nor care, to dig deeper into resolving the issue. That said, perhaps you do.
The 500 dollar price point is simply posted because if I wanted to donate it, that’s what I’d get as a tax credit, but tax credits are boring. So I don’t know… maybe you’ve got an engine laying around. If not, maybe you can get one? I’ve seen some show up here with under 100K for around 250 bucks. It’s a manual transmission, by the way. Or maybe you’re an environmentalist, and you just want to turn it into an artificial reef… what you do with it, I don’t care.
It’s got two fairly new “Pro-Meter” tires on the front, also. If you’re unfamiliar with Pro-Meter, well, have I got news for you… they’re the best value that can be had in Chinese tire technology… they weren’t cheap, either… those tires ran me a whole 40 bucks each… that’s like, an instant 80 dollar discount! Lucky you!
I’m really interested in leaving this listing up until I get a wicked trade deal, and unlike other folks who say “let’s make a trade” and refuse to give an indicator as to what they’re interested in, I’m going to tell you point blank that my fancy is tickled by the following:
1.) Mopeds and Scooters; meaning Sachs, Puch, Tomos, Honda, Batavus, Suzuki, Yamaha, Motobecane, Benelli etc.
2.) Small displacement motorcycles that you can confuse the SoS into believing are mopeds. Things like Honda Cubs, Honda Trails, and the like. I’m also batshit crazy about Bridgestone Motorcycles (does anyone have a “Homer?”).
3.) Go karts / gokarts / go carts / gokarts – I’m a grown man with the fever.
…but in all honesty, I’m looking for a bike to put my girlfriend on, and it really should be automatic, so a solid moped that I can tinker with would really take the grand prize. Something that I can pull a little bit more top speed out of without too much hassle. So, 2 stroke bikes are high on the list, simply because I can most likely throw an expansion chamber on there with relative ease, as are bikes that don’t have an enclosed, un-alterable power delivery (meaning, something I can swap gears on). I’m sorry, but I’m just not interested in the Honda Spree. I’ve seen people chase glory with those things, and it never quite gets to the point they want it to. Now, an 80cc Honda Elite or Aero, by all means, let’s do a deal! If it can hit 40mph, and be registered as a moped (I know the law says it’s supposed to only go 30. Spare me… please), I’m interested!
Anyway, what have you got? Trades take top priority, cash offers (it’s 500 OR BEST OFFER) run a close second. I won’t be around this week or weekend, but I figured I’d put it out there and see what come through the grapevine.
P.S. I might even be able to put you in contact with a guy who has a motor for this truck. It was meticulously maintained until his brother borrowed it and got into an accident. His truck runs and drives, but the frame is bent. I don’t know if he still has it, but I know that he was looking to get it out of his life as of a month ago.
